National Night out was created 31 years ago as a way to bond communities with local law enforcement to take a stand against crime together as one. It has become very much a celebration of unity in communities across the country and tonight will be Evansville's 18th National Night Out Against Crime celebration at Wesselman Park from 6 to 9pm. This is one of the largest, if not the single largest community event in Evansville. There is something for everyone, especially the kids, who get a close up view of the men and women behind the badges and the equipment used in law enforcement and community emergency response in general.

It is a great night night for families. In 2013, almost 38 million people in more than 16,000 communities nationwide participated in the event and this year could be the biggest ever, both locally and nationally. The main purpose of the event is to promote awareness, safety, neighborhood unity and most important, community partnerships and citizen involvement to keep our towns safe.
