It Takes a Village no-kill rescue, is located in Evansville. ITV recently posted on Facebook about the dangers of selling/giving away pets online after 3 dogs with broken legs came to them.

ITV currently has 3 dogs in their care who were pulled form a residence where they were living in horrible conditions. Daviess County Animal Shelter pulled 7 dogs from a residence, where the dogs were found to have been acquired by the owners online.

According to our friends at Eyewitness news, of the 7 dogs, 1 was euthanized due to behavioral issues, 3 went to It Takes a village with broken legs where they are awaiting foster homes and surgery.  1 is still at Daviess County Animal Shelter, and the rest have found good homes.

This is why people say not to give pets away online.  And if you've found a pet and are trying to find the rightful owner, make sure the owner can provide proof like a photo of the dog, or vet papers etc...

It's important to remember that getting a pet is not a decision to be taken lightly.  That pet will be in your care for the rest of their life. If you can't commit to that, then don't get a pet.  However I do understand sometimes circumstances are beyond your control, and if that happens and you do have to re-home your pet, it can seem like the internet would be a good place to start. But the internet can be very risky so you need to be careful, and take precaution to make sure your pet goes to a good home. RehomeYourPets.com has several  tips on how to do that, here.

I'd also suggest reaching out to your local shelters and rescues.  Many will be happy to assist you. If they aren't able to take your pet due to being full, many are a great resource to help point you in the right direction.

If you'd like to help, you can donate to help cover the vet bills for these dogs to  It Takes a Village, here and Daviess county Animal Shelter here.

ITV is also needing fosters for the 3 dogs who have broken legs. You can fill out an application to foster, here.,
