Evansville Man Has Given Away Over 200 Bicycles To Kids
A retired Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation man has found a way to still give back to local kids even after retirement.
There has been a post circulating on Facebook about this gentleman taking in unused bicycles, fixing them up, and then giving them away to children in the neighborhood. The gentleman spends his days working on these bikes, collecting parts, and allowing children to simply be kids. Mr. Lee Golden is said to have given away over 200 bicycles to children who, otherwise, might not have gotten the opportunity to have a bike of their own.
I spoke with Jason, who shared this post, about Mr. Golden. He says "The only thing he (Mr.Golden) ever says is how nice it is to see the kids right off with that smile." Mr. Golden's mission doesn't just include helping out children, however. Jason also mentioned Mr. Golden buying a bike for $20 from an older gentleman who was down on his luck. Jason says the bike was probably only worth $10. Then Mr. Golden's wife told him that the guy didn't have anywhere to stay so he chased him down and gave him another 20 bucks. Just as his name implies, Jason says "This guy's heart is golden."
You see a lot of things in the news nowadays. A lot of negative stories. It's not often you get to hear about the GOOD that people do...especially here in the Tri-State. I believe this man is doing something that goes much further than just giving children a bicycle to ride around in the neighborhood. By doing what he does, he his teaching children about giving and sharing. He's showing them that good people still exist. He is a light in what can be a dark world sometimes. Thank you, Mr. Golden for all that you do for the community. Acts of kindness such as what you do goes a long, long way!
