It was only a matter of time before real-life escape rooms became the plot of a horror movie. Solving puzzles and searching for clues with your friends inside elaborately themed adventure games can be fun, but it could also be a horrific nightmare if some sadistic bastard is running the show.

In Sony’s Escape Room, a group of people are sent an invitation to a new escape room. The game? Be the first to escape the room and win a million bucks. Easy, right? You just gotta solve some riddles and you win. But in this room, the “most immersive one yet,” those riddles are deadly as hell, like being stuck in an office bursting with flames, getting trapped under a frozen lake or inside a collapsing living room.

The new movie comes from Insidious: The Last Key and The Taking of Deborah Logan director Adam Robitel. It’s like a mix of Saw meets Cabin in the Woods, though by the looks of the first trailer it seems considerably less gory than you’d expect. It stars Jay Ellis (yes, Lawrence from Insecure), Logan Miller (Love, Simon), Tyler Labine, Taylor Russell, Nik Dodani, and Deborah Ann Woll. Escape Room hits theaters January 4, 2019, so you have a few more months to play some real escape rooms before this scares you away from ever going near one again.
