Dolly Parton's latest made-for-television film scored huge ratings for NBC on Wednesday night (Nov. 30). Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love drew more than 11 million viewers.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film -- which is part of a series of films Parton is under contract to produce for the network, based on her life and music -- earned 11.4 million viewers and a 1.8 ratings share in the adults aged 18-49 demographic, not only winning its time slot, but helping NBC score its highest-rated Wednesday night of the 2016-2017 television season.

The film is a sequel to Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors, which drew 13 million viewers when it aired during the 2015 holiday season. Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love expands on the story of Parton's impoverished childhood in rural Tennessee, focusing on one Christmas around the time her family began to realize that Parton might have a shot at becoming a successful singer one day.

Parton's focus for the series of films is on bringing quality family fare back to the small screen. She had a very specific feeling in mind for the latest installment.

“I want people to feel better about themselves. I want them to feel in the Christmas spirit. I want them to feel closer to family and closer to God,” she says. “The Circle of Love is really about the birthday of Jesus in Bethlehem. We want families to feel closer together. More than anything, I want people to feel the joy of Christmas and what Christmas is really about, which is Jesus and just feeling happy.”

Parton recently announced the formation of the My People Fund, which will help support families displaced by the terrible wildfires that swept through the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg areas of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee were she was raised. The fund will provide $1,000 each month to Sevier County families who lost their homes in the fires.
