Dierks Bentley is adding a new gig -- and an unexpected one at that -- to his already busy schedule: The country star has been nominated to the Nashville Airport Authority's board of directors.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is the one who nominated Bentley, who has lived in Nashville since 1994, to fill an open spot on the 10-person Nashville Airport Authority board. Although her selection may seem odd, Bentley holds a pilot's license (and played the pilot in his "Drunk on a Plane" music video, though that's likely not what makes him qualified for this position!).

"I am honored for the opportunity to serve on the Airport Authority board," Bentley tells the Tennessean. "I love Nashville, and I love aviation. There are many big changes happening in our city right now, as it continues to grow so rapidly. I am very excited to get a chance to be involved in facilitating and managing that growth as it pertains to our airports and aviation services."

Nashville's Metro Council will have the final say on Bentley's appointment to the Nashville Airport Authority board; they'll vote on the matter in May. Bentley's position on the board is a volunteer spot.

“As a leader in the Nashville music industry and as a pilot himself, Dierks brings a unique perspective to the board of the MNAA, having flown into hundreds of airports worldwide,” Barry notes. “He will lend an important voice to the Airport Authority, which will be managing the $1.2 billion capital investment in the MNAA facilities, while working to make our airport a true international hub for commerce and tourism."

Bentley is currently out on the road for his 2017 What the Hell World Tour.
