Backstage at the 2018 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday evening (Nov. 14), David Lee Murphy reflected on his win in the category of Musical Event of the Year. The award went to "Everything's Gonna Be Alright," a duet between Murphy and country superstar Kenny Chesney. However, unfortunately, Chesney was not able to attend the Wednesday evening ceremony due to a death in his family.

"I wish Kenny was here," Murphy admitted during the ceremony. "Of course, he's had a loss. He was one of the first people to let me know we won this morning."

Murphy went on to say that Chesney had told him about the win via text message. "He just said, 'Brother, we've won it,'" Murphy goes on to say. "It was really special, because we have put a lot of time into this record, and you know, he had me out on tour this summer, and has spent a lot of time in the studio with me.

"It was really special to me that he believed in this record," he continues. "That made me happy, that we got this award, for that reason."

“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” was written by Murphy, Chris Stevens and Jimmy Yeary, and appears on Murphy's No Zip Code album. The song is Murphy's first No. 1 since 1995's "Dust on the Bottle," and this is Murphy's first CMA Awards win.
