In the coming weeks, there are controlled burns planned for several areas within Hoosier National Forest. According to a press release the burn areas are currently planned in the following counties:

  • Brown
  • Crawford
  • Jackson
  • Lawrence
  • Orange
  • Martin
  • Perry

There are no exact dates planned for the burn as weather will be factor in the burns but they plan to ignite a total of 4700 acres of forest. If you're wondering why the National Forest would want to burn any of the land in it's care, it actually improves wildlife habitat and restores woodlands.
