Did the Civil Wars Break Up?
While millions of Americans were distracted by the election and polling results, some major news hit the country music circuit. Popular folk duo the Civil Wars posted a message on Tuesday (Nov. 6) that leads fans to believe that they might be breaking up.
Citing “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition,” John Paul White and Joy Williams canceled a run of tour dates with no promise to return to the cities anytime soon — at least together.
“We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret,” the Civil Wars wrote on Facebook. “However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013.”
We’re not sure exactly what that means, but it doesn’t sound good. Luckily, the duo are trying to be courteous to fans by offering to reimburse them for any non-refundable service charges or fees associated with ticket costs.
The Civil Wars’ Facebook status certainly makes it sound like they could be on the outs for good, and that comes as a shock to fans of the award-winning duo. Williams and White scored Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album (for ‘Barton Hollow’) and Best Country Duo/Group earlier this year, and they recently teamed up with Taylor Swift to record ‘Safe & Sound’ for ‘The Hunger Games’ soundtrack.
The ‘Poison & Wine’ hitmakers were on the verge of some serious stardom. With any luck, they will iron out the kinks and start making new music again soon.

A massive tornado touched down just south of Oklahoma City on Monday, killing dozens.
At least seven of those killed were students at Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore. The twister, which measured 2 miles at one point, has been given a preliminary classification of an EF-4 tornado (winds of 166 to 200 mph), according to weather officials.
