Last year was a huge year for Chris Young, and so far, it looks like 2013 is on pace to be just as good for the singer’s country music career. On Jan. 29, the Country Music Association will honor Young with the Triple Play Award, a coveted honor reserved for songwriters who have written three No. 1 songs in a 12-month period.

The Triple Play Award will recognize Young’s hit songs ‘Voices,’ ‘Tomorrow’ and You.’ All three songs were released in a one-year span during 2010 and 2011. Since hitting the airwaves, ‘Voices’ and ‘You’ have achieved certified gold status, and ‘Tomorrow’ has gone platinum.

In addition to writing a slew of popular songs, Young has been working hard to increase the popularity of country music overseas. The ‘Gettin’ You Home’ hitmaker will make his inaugural trip to the U.K. and Ireland in February as part of the Country Music Association’s Songwriters Series. The series will be recorded and broadcast on the BBC network at a later date.

During the first part of 2013, Young won’t have time to stop and revel in winning this honorable award. The ‘Neon’ hitmaker resumed his stateside Liquid Neon Tour on Jan. 23–after being placed on vocal rest and postponing a few dates in late 2012–with a gig in Chicago. From that date through mid-April, Young’s schedule will be packed full of performances.

The year has only just begun, and it’s already proving to be a good one for Young. The CMA Triple Play Award is just the beginning for this fan-favorite country artist.
