Jon and Leslie Talk About the CMT Video Awards Overlooking George Jones Contribution

This morning we discussed the letter Naomi Judd wrote to the Tennessean voicing her disappointment about the 2013 CMT Video Awards barely mentioning the passing of George Jones. I said that it might be because the awards show is geared toward a younger crowd because it awards everything video. Jon mentioned that George actually made a few videos including one that was AWESOME that starred an older man working at a gas station. It's the video for 'Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes'. When you are a performer, and yes this even applies to Jon and myself, there is a saying that 'the show must go on'. That means that no matter what is going on in your personal life, you have to set it aside and entertain. I have to admit, that some days, it is VERY hard to do that.

Can you imagine how hard it was for the artists from Oklahoma to perform last night at the 'Healing the Heartland' benefit concert? Being there, viewing first hand the devastation in your beloved state, had to be overwhelming. For Miranda Lambert, who performed 'The House That Built Me', it proved to be too much.

George Strait turns 61 years old TODAY! The "Sixty for Sixty" campaign to get George his 60th #1 single while he was still 60 years old didn't quite make it, "Give It All We Got Tonight" has only made it to #10. But, that's OK, there is no one like George Strait and there quite possibly never will be. Several, I mean tons, of artists made videos to try and urge fans to buy the single. It is very touching. It is Saturday morning and we are in the middle of the WKDQ Country Classic Show. It's always tough to do this show after we have lost one of the greats that made country music what it is today. As you are well aware, George Jones died yesterday at the age of 81. His farewell tour was just here in Evansville on March 23rd. Who knew it would be farewell for good when he left town.
