A tragic accident over the weekend took the lives of a Castle High School band member and two members of her family as they were heading home from the Bands of America band competition in Indianapolis.  In the accident were Sophie Rinehart, 17 years old, her father David Rinehart, a pastor at Crossroads Christian Church, and 74-year old grandmother, Ruth Rinehart, who were traveling on I 69 southbound near the 103-mile marker where the accident occurred.

According to 14 WFIE, David was driving home to Newburgh and struck a deer causing the car to pull off to the outside shoulder and stop.

Afterward, a pickup truck driven by 19-year-old Mason Hartkey, of Jasper,  was approaching Rinehart when, for unknown reasons, the truck left the southbound lanes of traffic and entered the outside shoulder, hitting Rinehart's car.

Another passenger in the car, 18-year-old Josie Rinehart suffered cuts and abrasions and was transported to IU Health Bloomington.  She is in stable condition.

Sophie Rinehart was a junior at Castle High School who played the flute in the marching band and sang with the Knight Sensations Show Choir.

Our prayers go out to the Rinehart family, friends, Castle High School and their marching band and show choir.   Here is a post from the Castle High School Band Directors on the "Castle Bands" Facebook page.   #RIPSophie  #RIPDavid   #RIPRuth
