Brantley Gilbert Throws Rooftop Party to Honor ‘You Don’t Know Her Like I Do’

One of the great things about having a summertime No. 1 on country radio is the rooftop parties to celebrate. That’s exactly the kind of party Brantley Gilbert decided to throw for his latest chart-topper, ‘You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,’ on Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 22) in Nashville.
In addition to Gilbert, his co-writer on the song (Jim McCormick), his record label and industry team, a few fellow country artists also joined in on the fun on the rooftop of BMI, including Jana Kramer, ‘The Voice’ finalist RaeLynn, Eric Paslay (who celebrated at his own No. 1 party earlier in the week) and Greg Bates (who will be joining Gilbert on the road this fall).
‘You Don’t Know Her Like I Do’ is Gilbert’s second-consecutive No. 1 hit, which follows ‘Country Must Be Country Wide.’ The new tune is more of a personal look at Gilbert’s personal life and shows the depth of his songwriting.
“Today’s a good day,” Gilbert told Taste of Country with a laugh and a smile prior to the start of the party. “It’s a very simple song and to the point. When Jim and I wrote this song, we sat down to write, and we really just started off with conversation. He was like, ‘Man, what’s going on in your life?’ We just exchanged stories for a minute, and it got deeper and deeper into what was going on. I was having an issue with a girl at that time. I brought it up, and we were really as honest and simple as possible, put it into words. It turned out to be a really good thing [laughs]! The best part about songwriting is expressing emotions and getting those feelings out. Seeing it pay off like this is definitely cool.”
After meeting with the media, Gilbert made his way to the rooftop to join in on the festivities while party-goers enjoyed a classy catering spread of homegrown tomato sandwiches, mini BBQ sliders, pimento cheese triangles, grilled chicken skewers with blackberry BBQ sauce, watermelon popsicles, black bean and corn salsa with a variety of chips, and various cheese platters.
Gilbert and McCormick then picked up their new bling, perfect for hanging on their walls, and McCormick walked away with his first BMI guitar, which the company gives to all songwriters after they score the first No. 1 of their career.
