Brantley Gilbert and Jana Kramer Separate Business and Romance in Battle for ACM New Artist of the Year Award

It’s official! The nominations for the 48th annual Academy of Country Music awards are in, and Brantley Gilbert and his new fiance Jana Kramer are going up against each another for the New Artist of the Year Award.
Gilbert just proposed to his country singer girlfriend in January, and the couple is already being put to the test by competing against one another for the coveted trophy. Break-out duo Florida Georgia Line has also been nominated for the New Artist of the Year honor.
This award is decided by the fans, who cast their ballots for New Male Artist, New Female Artist and New Vocal Duo or Group. Now, the three winners of those categories will battle to become the New Artist of the Year.
“I got asked, ‘Who’s going to bring home the next award?’” Gilbert told Country Weekly. “And I said, ‘You know what, it’s going to the same house, so it don’t really matter.’”
The good news is, both Gilbert and Kramer seem to be excited for each. They aren’t going to let an ACM competition get in the way of their happiness. Kramer mentioned that she is excited to be nominated for the award, and that no matter who gets the trophy, she and Gilbert will support each other.
“We’re so different that it’s not a competition, if that makes sense,” she said. “If he were to win and I didn’t, I support him 100 percent.”
“I might be bitter for like a second,” she added jokingly. “I might be like, ‘Maybe you could take me out to dinner and surprise me or something.’ Just kidding!”
Gilbert added that he’s excited to walk the ACM red carpet with his future wife.
“It’s always an honor to be nominated,” he acknowledges. “[I'm] definitely looking forward to the show. You know I’m gonna have the hottest date in the house, so that’s always a plus.”
It sounds like these two love birds won’t get rattled no matter how the New Artist of the Year award shakes out. They aren’t the only country music couple who will be pitted against each other at the ACMs – Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are both nominated in the Entertainer of the Year category.
Tune in to the ACM awards when they air live on CBS from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday April 7, to see which country stars will go home with a new trophy in hand.
