Blake Shelton’s New Year’s Resolution Is to Be Less Controversial

Vowing to behave yourself on Twitter isn’t the most conventional New Year’s resolution, but Blake Shelton isn’t your average user. Following a few well-publicized, ill-humored comments made through his official account in 2012, the CMA Entertainer of the Year promises to make more friends and less enemies on the social media platform in the new year.
“I need to work on being a less controversial tweeter,” Shelton confesses to Us Weekly, no doubt referring to the handful of crass comments made that threw hundreds of fellow Twitter users into viral frenzies.
Last July, Shelton outraged animal activists after he took to his account to brag about purposefully hitting a turtle while driving down the road in his home state of Oklahoma. The singer quickly rescinded his comment, declaring, “Ok.. Now that âTurtle-Gateâ is over I want to apologize for my ignorant joke.. I never ran over a turtle. It wasnât even possible.”
Despite his apology, the hundreds of activists voice their concerns regarding Shelton’s off-colored humor, launching what would become known as ‘TurtleGate 2012.’
With his new single, ‘Sure Be Cool if You Did,’ now at radio, Shelton will no doubt reserve any energy creating controversy on Twitter for his ever-rising country music career. The superstar is prepping the release of his seventh studio album, as well as preparing for the fourth season of ‘The Voice.’
