Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan Joke About Preparing to Host the ACM Awards
Country’s funny men Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan are set to co-host the ACM Awards this year, and the duo good-humoredly admit that so far, preparations for the gig haven’t been quite as smooth as they might wish — partly because they’re so busy with their separate careers.
“There’s not much time, but there’s enough time to where we can brainstorm and put something together,” Bryan tells CMT Radio (quote via CMT News). “Blake and I, we’re gonna start spending some time on the phone and talking stuff out. At the end of the day, I mean, whatever the writers write, Blake and I will have to say it, but we’ll certainly have a lot of input to do funny things.”
From what we gathered from a joint interview the pair gave to CMT Connected, newcomer Bryan is going to need more help than Shelton, who’s a veteran host. “We’re here to talk about this upcoming ACM that Blake is letting me host with him,” Bryan began before losing the thread of what he wanted to say. “To hold the audience while …” he resumed haltingly, then trailed off before finally saying, “That’s a good setup, ain’t it?”
“You see how screwed I am?” Shelton quipped. “That was his suggestion for the monologue, actually … I just don’t think it’s gonna work.”
All kidding aside, Shelton acknowledged that Bryan has had some good suggestions for the show. “I have ideas,” Bryan allowed. “Monologue, no — but ideas, I’ve got.”
The 48th Annual ACM Awards will air on CBS on Sunday, April 17. The show will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
