5 Actors Who Could Play Batman in the Reboot

Even though Christian Bale nailed the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, let’s face it: Warner Brothers is going to reboot the character and it will probably happen sooner rather than later. Since Christian Bale will not star in any Batman movie not directed by Christopher Nolan, here are five potential actors who could believably pull off being both the playboy Bruce Wayne and The Dark Knight.

1. Jensen Ackles

Yep, you heard right. The soft-spoken Texan who stars as the wise-cracking yet troubled Dean Winchester on the CW’s ‘Supernatural’? That’s correct! Any fans of ‘Supernatural’ will tell you that Ackles has charisma and natural talent; and since whoever dons the cowl of The Dark Knight will need to be as equally convincing as both Bruce Wayne and Batman, Ackles is a shoe-in. Another plus is Ackles is already in decent physical shape and is used to performing stunts, both of which would be a boon in playing Batman. Add a personal trainer, and Jensen would rock the Batsuit!

2. Matt Bomer

Classically handsome, Bomer certainly has the right profile to play Bruce Wayne. He’s also a very good actor too, and since it’s a shame that he wasn’t picked to play Clark Kent/Superman in the WB’s new reboot, perhaps he could portray Superman’s fellow superhero. Plus, if Warner Bros. ever allowed a crossover between the new Batman and Superman movies (perhaps in a Justice League movie), it would be interesting to see how Henry Cavill’s Superman and Matt Bomer’s Batman would play off of one another on the big screen.

3. Armie Hammer

Remember way back in 2007 when Hammer was rumored to be playing Batman in the Justice League movie that nobody wanted? You know, the one that was supposed to star Common as Green Lantern? And everyone freaked out and wondered why a guy whose names sounds like a detergent was taking over for Bale in a JL movie? Well, what a difference a few years (and one social network) makes. Thanks to his acclaimed dual roles in ‘The Social Network,’ Hammer is on his way towards becoming an A-lister. He’s also playing the original masked vigilante in next summer’s ‘The Lone Ranger.’ Could it be time for him to finally put on the Bat armor? He certainly has the abs for the role.

4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Although it’s hinted at the end of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ that Levitt’s character takes over the suit since Bruce Wayne “died,” you don’t know if he will become Robin like his (spoiler alert) first name suggests or Batman. If Warner Brothers wanted to add a little continuity from one Batman movie to another or even just a little inside joke for the diehard fans, casting Joseph Gordon-Levitt would do the trick. Plus, Levitt is a phenomenal actor and budding action movie star thanks to ‘Looper.’

5. Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Familiar to comic book fans for his roles in ‘Watchmen’ and ‘The Losers,’ the gritty actor would be an excellent choice if Warner Brothers wants a slightly older Batman in the reboot. (Perhaps for a live-action adaptation of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’?) He has the acting chops, the physique and the height (6’2″) as well. Plus, he’s already played a superhero of sorts — The Comedian from ‘Watchmen.’ After playing that nutcase, taking on The Dark Knight would be a cakewalk.
