We always try to introduce you to new music on 99.5 WKDQ, but we can’t put everybody on air. So, I decided to start spotlighting some of my favorite artists just for you! New artists, old artists, in between artists, local artists, artist that will be performing HERE, I’ve got them all!

My artist spotlight for this week is a little different, mainly because he’s going to be playing here in town tomorrow! Chris Cavanaugh is originally from Missouri, but made the move to Tennessee shortly after graduating high school. He’s one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met, and that shows in his musical style. Chris starting picking at the guitar at the age of twelve, and never really stopped. Being a credited songwriter in Nashville with his publishing deal has given him the opportunity to form relationships with some other artists we know and love, including David Fanning and Curtis Grimes, among many others.

Chris is so thankful for every opportunity he’s been given, and he’s constantly looking at what’s ahead. Something really cool about Chris is that he really cares about his fans and what he does. He doesn’t necessarily care how or where he’s making his music, just as long as he’s doing it. Chris spilled that when first starting out, he used his home address on basically everything related to his career until he started getting fan mail. Now it’s not that Chris was afraid somebody would harm him, it’s just not exactly something you want everybody knowing! After receiving some Christmas cards and fan-related mail in general, he figured out it might be best to get a P.O. Box ;)

Some favorites for Chris involve the color blue, dogs and Whopper candy, preferring to drive instead of fly and The Office TV show. If you’re feeling generous and want to bring him a gift, guitar strings and stands would be appreciated. Now I could continue to tell you Chris’s life story, and everything he likes and dislikes, but then you wouldn’t have much to talk about when ya meet him!

Chris Cavanaugh will be playing at Backstage Bar & Grill on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10:00 PM. Doors open at 8:00 PM, and there is a $5 cover charge to get in. To give you a little taste of what you’ll see, I had Chris record a video just for us! Check it out below and let us know what ya think! You can also listen to the full audio between the two of us to see how he answered my questions, and hopefully we’ll see you at Backstage tomorrow night!

You can find Chris on Facebook or Twitter, and you can download his music by clicking here! Want some advice? Download it NOW that way you can sing along tomorrow… I know I did! :)
