Indiana students who are able to maintain good grades, stay off drugs and walk the proverbial straight-and-narrow can take advantage of Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program, which was put in place as an opportunity for students to have their college tuition paid.

According to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, nearly 80 percent of the 21st Century Scholars received high school diplomas in 2006, making these students three times more likely to attend college than other low-income students not enrolled in the program. However, only 40 percent of Hoosier students enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program apply for this scholarship.

The Indiana 21st Century Scholars program will pay the college tuition at a state level college or university for students enrolled in the program that can make a commitment to stay off drugs and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.

Applications for the 21st Century Scholars program are now being accepted. Your child must be in the seventh or eighth grade and qualify for financial assistance for school lunches. This year’s deadline is June 30, 2013.
