Breaking news tonight.  The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's office confirms there is an active shooter situation on the north side of Evansville.


According to our partners at Eyewitness News, Diamond Avenue is closed all the way to Hwy 41 and motorists are urged to avoid this area. Dozens and dozens of law enforcement officers are currently on site.  There are deputies from Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department, EPD officers and Indiana State Police officers working the perimeter and trying to securing the scene.  Witnesses reported that officers, with guns drawn, focused their attention on an alley in the area.  That alley is located near a couple of local business including Lic's Ice Cream & Deli and a Little Caesar's.  Residents nearby have been urged to shelter in place as the situation continues.

One person is in custody.  The situation remains fluid.  And the area remains closed off.
