Last night, I was invited to attend the opening night of Cirque du Soleil: Corteo at the Ford Center in Evansville, IN. It has been several years since I attended a Cirque show which focused mostly on acrobatics. Corteo was completely different and I absolutely LOVED it.

When you walk into the Ford Center, the stage is set in the middle of the arena and seats are placed on either side with the ends blocked off so there are no bad seats. With a live orchestra, in character, stationed at all four corners and all live music, the acoustics in the venue are phenomenal. And the show was full of laughter, emotional moments, and surprises around every corner. At one point, I think I actually squealed with delight. It just came out. Don't judge me!

According to their website, "The clown Mauro has passed, but his spirit is still with us. Instead of mourning, the funeral cortege celebrates the here and hereafter with laughter and exuberance. Rich, extravagant memories frolic with the senses. The sound of laughter peals around the stage, visions of joyous tumblers and players fascinate the eyes. Regret and melancholy retreat in the face of a cavalcade of lively recollections of a life gloriously lived. A festive parade that entertains; the perfect accolade for an artist whose life was dedicated to revelry and making merry."

The storyline was perfectly whimsical and the performer who played Mauro had me in stitches! There were, of course, acrobatics and feats of danger but each part was played with care and deep emotion. Even my husband, who doesn't fancy himself a live performance connoisseur was enchanted. He didn't exactly use the word "enchanted" but I could tell... A wife can tell when her husband is enchanted, ya know?

Corteo was so good, that my next order of business is to purchase tickets for my parents and daughter because after hearing our rave reviews, they have to go and see it for themselves. And, dear readers, I'd suggest not googling photos and video of the performance because the surprises are a fantastic touch! If you HAVE to see it and won't just take my word for it (which you should), watch the above video.

You can still purchase tickets to the show - as they will be performing today thru Jan 27, 2019 here in Evansville. To see ticket options, click here.
